The Day of the Bat

Most of those close to me know me as a huge Batman fan.  Since I was three years old when I got an electric batmobile for my birthday, Batman has been my superhero of choice.  You may even find me reading comics under my Batman snuggy.  I was just brewing beer with my batman apron yesterday in fact.  Needless to say, Batman embodies much of what I love about comics.  Today is his 75th birthday and because of that, I really want to talk about why he is so wonderful.

Bruce Wayne is the suffering hero.  He could have moved on from his parents being murdered and continued to live a typical rich kid life.  He doesn’t.  He chooses a life of suffering for others.  He doesn’t deal with his own problems but instead takes on those of the world.  He doesn’t kill, and he doesn’t stand for anyone killing anyone else.  He is extremely vulnerable but he hides it from the rest of the world so that he can be strong for them.  He puts all his hope in others, Robin, Superman, and the rest of the Justice League.  Who he is is almost the antithesis of his persona.  He is weak, so he acts strong, he is afraid, so he strikes fear, he is a child, so he emits the extremity of masculinity.

Also he is brilliant and immensely skilled….but I don’t think anyone cares about that.

Nostalgia

radio

Looking at my blog site makes me feel weirdly nostalgic.  I just kind of gave up on this and I don’t know why.  I really enjoy blogging and drawing.  Maybe I need to rethink how I do this and make something really fun.

Speaking of Nostalgia, I converted this old radio to Bluetooth so I could use my phone and computer to play classic songs and radio shows.  I want to make more of these and other things like it.

My dearest friend Rand gave me these sweet little goodies.  Don’t know if I have posted about John Malta before, I believe I have.  Any who, his stuff is awesome.

Zlam Dunk Final Show Poster

So my friend Rand made one of the best posters he has made yet.  Love having this gem above my bookshelf.  You love it too.  I know you do.  Don’t lie to me.

The show was as awesome as this poster is.

Timecowboy!

If you haven’t checked out Jake Lawrence’s work then I suggest might probably should.  Sweet nerdy online comics, including lots of Zelda stuff.  I generally enjoy his tumblr posts.  Good style for mostly digital work.

Also, everyone needs to read What is the What by Dave Eggers.  Completely brilliant.  Haven’t finished it yet but I sure am loving the audiobook version.

Sorry I haven’t been posting much.  Doing stuff for other people and just haven’t been working on stuff as much.
